Equal employment opportunity commission

Any individual who believes that his or her employment rights have been violated may file a charge of discrimination with EEOC. In addition, an individual, organization, or agency may file a charge on behalf of another person in order to protect the aggrieved person’s identity. (EEOC, 2009) For filing the charge of discrimination, one must first fill up a questionnaire that can either be submitted by mail or in person. If all the information required by the EEOC regulations are provided in the questionnaire, an intake of the questionnaire and other correspondence constitutes a charge.

Equal pay act charges EEOC registered 861, 818 and 954 cases in the years 2006, 2007 and 2008 respectively under equal pay act. Out of these cases, 748, 796 and 828 cases have been resolved successfully in 06, 07 and 08 respectively. In 2006, aggrieved parties received a total monetary benefit of $3. 1 million. This almost tripled in the next year to $9. 3 million. This figure stood at $9. 6 million as on the year 2008. (EEOC, 2009) Summary statistics

The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission recorded 75,768, 82,792 and 95,402 cases that were filed with it in the years 06, 07 and 08 respectively. Out of these many number of cases the number of cases were resolved in those years were 74,308, 72,442, 81,081 respectively. The monetary benefits that the aggrieved parties got from successful case resolutions were $229. 9 million, $290. 6million and $274. 4 million in the years 2006, 2007 and 2008 respectively. (EEOC, 2009)
