Making decisions Essay

Management involves making decisions that are going to create certain effect or outcomes. As a matter of fact, resource management is so common not only in the various professional fields but also in personal life. In my personal and professional life, I frame my decisions based on judgments and predictions surrounding the likelihood or unlikelihood of certain events. In most cases, the likelihood of an event cannot be measured or established empirically, so I try my level best to avoid optimism while framing my decisions.

I base my resolutions on the worst case scenario, so that in case of any eventuality, the loss incurred from the risks associated with a certain decision is always anticipated and therefore prepared for. When framing my decisions, I always bear in mind that secondary effects are definitely bound to arise since most decisions will be based on multiple scenarios. I generally prefer to concentrate on absolute certainties as is the routine in positive decision framing as this offers an assurance on gains from the decision made.

I avoid framing my decisions as options since such are based on likely other than assured gains; and in such a scenario, the choices made are likely to be characterized

with too many risks. A rational approach to decision framing, a characteristic of seasoned managers, is based on instinct. Even though it may lead to well reasoned judgment calls, it eventually becomes overemphasized and personal biases become too pronounced in the process of decision making.

I have a tendency to frame my decision considering both sides of the divide: I consider intuition but still invoke an element of rationality, carefully weighing any available options and other factors that may contribute to the outcomes of any decision that I make. Q2. Underlying principles for the way I live my life I always want my life to be happy, fulfilling and successful. I therefore have defined a set of underlying principles that I incorporate into my daily life with the objective of fulfilling the above aspirations.

All these principles are important to me since they are founded not only in rationality, but also on conscience and the teachings of religion. The first of these principles is honesty. I aspire to be honest not only in word but also in deed, as it helps me not only to be more aware of myself but it also helps me relate openly and transparently with all the other people I interact with on a daily basis. Honesty and integrity frees the mind of most inhibitions and inhibitions and therefore encourages the liberation of mental, physical and emotions so that I can achieve my full productivity and accuracy while making decisions.

The second principle is justness and fairness. I believe that the measure one uses on others is the same measure that will be used for his or her case. In other words, I try to attract goodwill from the other people I interact with in the process if living by doing good. By being just and fair, I am actually becoming attractive and trustworthy in the eyes of others; and my influence grows. It then gives me the bargaining power to push forward with my agenda with less resistance as I am better positioned to engage in rational debates with more convincing power.

I also base my daily life on a philosophy of frugality, economy, thrift, simplicity, diligence, and hard work. These are principles, if properly adhered to; give an individual the capacity to achieve his or her objectives in life. Frugality involves prudence in avoiding waste. I try to be as efficient as can be possible with the resources I have at my disposal. I can only achieve that by living a simple but comfortable life so that I can wisely spend the resources I have including time and money.

These personal philosophies actually enable me to focus on my goals, set my priorities right and maintain my composure even when forced with the challenging situations which are certain to occur every now and then. Q3. Principles in my work life I try as much as possible to separate my professional life from my personal life. In as such, I create a schedule that separates my professional indulgences from my personal and private indulgences. However, some of the principles governing my personal life as outlined above also apply to my professional life.

I have a commitment to be honest and committed to my work and to those I work with, knowing that it is the only way that I can benefit from their cooperation and therefore lead to my enjoying the job. I focus on what I want, for example I do not like getting exhausted from overworking since in the end fatigue only lowers my productivity. I like getting motivated; and the only way to get motivation is seeking engagement and thriving in challenges. I set attainable goals which I make sure I achieve. Goal setting helps me maintain focus on the job and concentrate on the work I have.
