A small manufacturing firm
Being the supervisor of a small manufacturing firm, I have the responsibility of ensuring the safety and health of the members of my subordinates. In any business establishments, it is a prerequisite that one should established a conducive workplace environment where in there are fair treatment and harmonious relationship among the members and their safety is guaranteed. Avoiding accident and stress in the place of works makes it possible for the subordinates to function more effectively and proficiently. (Lee, 2000)
How would I do it? First, I should be able to determine whether there is any problem whether it is known, unknown or unrealized predicaments. That way, I would know what to do next. In order for me to make out if the members under my supervision were experiencing an accident or stress concerning their job and agency, I could conduct an employee survey (Lee, 2000). With the use of employee survey method, I being the supervisor would have a general idea of the intensity of stress within the human resource team.
With that, as David Lee identified, “Stress interferes with the brain functioning…”, thus preventing stress and so much work pressure helps a lot in the productivity of the employees. However, not only stress is the things that the workers unwillingly acquire in a workplace. Though physical environment only comprise twenty percent of the solution regarding those unwanted incidents (Lee, 2000), nevertheless this factor should be given focus and concentration.
Since it was given that it was a manufacturing company, there are different accident that may arise due to some drop litters and messes such as parts, raw materials, stocks machineries and other equipments in the building. If the orderliness of the stockpiles is not being taken into consideration, it can lead to confusion and may accidentally cause harm to the other credulous people.
According to the “Labour Union-Based in the United States”, the concern that is mostly given emphasis in the labour union is the assurance of workers’ protection and security from the company. It is always a governmental and rulemaking activity to look after the rights of the employees. (Byrd) With that, after distinguishing the necessity of any modification in the workplace, a reconstruction should take place in the agency.
The modification is dependent on the degree of the requirement needed to completely organize the place and in order to have an accident-free environment. As stated, it was just a small manufacturing business, so I assumed that the renovation would not be extremely complicated to implement. If the people in the company cannot function properly and effectively due to difficulty to move, maybe, there is a need to reposition the machineries or any obstruction in such a way that people are capable to freely move within the workplace.
The floors should be maintained dry because wet floor could lead to from minor to serious incident. Also, any activities which are dangerous and in need of precautionary measures like those that involve perilous chemicals should have an area allocated particularly to work in. Machineries should be regularly checked. Furthermore, the personnel in charge in certain machines should be very much familiar on how it should operate to avoid unwanted circumstances.
All this and more precautionary measures should be taking into account so as to ensure the safety and health of the workers. Again, as David Lee affirmed in his article that talks about some methods to minimize expense brought by stress-related matters and at the same time optimizing the productivity of the human resources, knowing stress in the context of the working environment and the prevention of accidents to happen could facilitate many companies to save significant quantity in the organization’s finance resource (Lee, 2000).
