Answer to question No .2. The condition at A.E.Staley and Why Union matters.
From the Story about A.E. Staley I have come to understand that definitely Union Matters. Before joining the union, the condition of workers at Staley was very pathetic. They were victims of Sexual harassments, Poor working conditions, brutal insults, unfair firing and all types of discriminations. But these isolations slowly withered away or at least lessened after they formed their union, against Tate and Lyles attack. They formed group meetings and discussed their issues, problems and experiences. Slowly they come to understand that a feeling and sense of power is emerging. The White community also began to respond positively to these issues. On April 9th they organized Decautur’s ever interracial civil rights march participating over 750 people. Thus it was a grand step towards success. Some labourers even black people opted out from these union movements out of fear or pessimism. But I think if I were there, I would have definitely participated in this struggle. Because through these experiences the black and white workers came to understand the power of union. The black and the white “We are all in this together” is the great lesson they got and society. I believe that a day will come when both women and men are treated equally in the work place. United Nations Organization is doing a lot to create a historic legacy of internationally agreed strategies, standards, programmes and goals to advance the status of women worldwide. Many associations and forums are also forming to promote legal measures, mobilize public opinion, and international action, training and research and to give direct assistance to these disadvantaged groups. Measures should be taken to promote women in decision making positions in politics and economy. Women should also be encouraged to actively participle in business which is mainly a male dominated area. Women’s motivations, imagination, creativity and leadership qualities should be utilized more effectively in male dominated areas to end these discriminations.
