Normally, Wal-Mart’s undertakings should not bring any controversy between people; this is due to their low cost of goods, large quantities of goods and their wide range of products ranging from households to clothing and food materials that the Americans evidently want to buy. However Wal-Mart does not make high profits from their sales but the profits fall at the same range with other retail businesses in America. Hence, it can be said that Wal-mart’s size and success is not drawn from any monopoly prices or profits but it simply sells large volumes of products at a small profit. Although the allegations might be more of a myth than reality, people are free to believe in unions and elites many of whom have probably never set their foot in Wal-mart that it exploits workers especially those who cannot afford to say no to low wages and poor benefits.

They should also know that the other good retail businesses are threatened by Wal-Mart because the people who shop in the main street hardware are the same customers who prefer to go shopping in Wal-Mart probably due to something which attracts them in the Mart more than in the street hardware store for example; their selection of goods and services, their attractive prices or their parking lot which may be of a higher standard or more spacious compared to those available at other stores.
Further more, they should know that Wal-Mart does not force people to walk into their shops or remove their wallets so as to purchase there, just like the way it can not make other shops shut down. Rather they should reason that there must be something right that is done by Wal-Mart which makes it more popular and be able to make more profits as compared to other shops. (Jones 20).
In regard to workers wages and benefits, Wal-Mart’s average starting salary is almost double the set national minimum wage per hour which is 5.15 dollars per hour. The CEO of Wal-Mart, Lee Scott has also called on the government for a raise in the set minimum wage, Although it will have a minimum effect on the wages of Wal-Marts workers since their wages are already far much above the minimum, calling for its raise must have raised a positive wave in the company and outside as a good motive from the company and therefore appease its political crisis and critics.
People should also note that the starting wages are not as bad as they are made to look but actually they are only a start as a high percentage of Wal-Mart executives have worked their way up the corporate ladder from the front lines of the company. This also means that Wal-Mart helps its employees to grow in the company, understand the operations which take place and therefore deliver the best services to the people a move which attracts people into the company.
