The policies for environment protection are made and enforced by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) which is established and funded by the government.
The EPA has many important roles in protecting the environment and some of these roles include; making the environment protection standards and policies, enforcing the laws which protect the environment against pollution caused by industries or the community, managing the stations for monitoring air, water among others, advising the industries, the community and even the government on ways of preserving the environment, supporting the campaigns which educate people about environment preservation and many more (EPA Victoria, 2006).
Usually, it is advisable for government to consult the businesses before making the environment protection policies; this is in order to reduce conflicts occurring in enforcing the standards. The most important role of the industries, foreign or local, in preserving the environment is to implement the environment protection policies and if possible make there own tighter policies.
In rare cases, the industries also advice the government on how to make the environment protection policies that are of mutual benefit. Furthermore, the roles of the community in environment preservation are very important and these include; availing themselves for educational campaigns on how to preserve the environment, reporting industries that are breaking the environment protection policies, and managing resources such as rangelands, watershed and many others (Meyer & Konisky, 2005).
moreover, through the environment protection system, the community is given the right to sue an industry which is not following the environment protection standards, in court. this therefore, enables the citizens to play the role of a private attorney and hence helping the government in protecting the environment (Access my library, 2003).
