Business and Society

Introduction.

Technological advancement has occurred over the years and it has had significant effects on various aspect of human life.  Technology refers to the invention of techniques and tools which are used to create new things.  It has gradually evolved from the Stone Age, ancient civilizations and the industrial revolution.  However, technology has developed at a very fast rate in the 21st century.  The advent of the Internet has helped spread technology through globalization (Andersen et. al., 2003).

Currently, the world is a global village, and events which happen in one part of the world affect other parts of the world.  The technology available today has shifted to production of commodities which have lesser negative effects on the environment (Baron, 2002).  These are known as ‘green materials’.  Technology has also shifted to production of healthier diets, which are mostly known as ‘herbal products’.

The information technology industry has also advanced in these recent times.  In the next decade, I expect to see the development of more ‘green materials’ and ‘herbal products’.  I also expect to see more incorporation of the Internet in activities such as learning, business, trade and others.

Supplies and mail packaging business.

In the mail packaging business, the current trend is a shift toward using faster means of transportation to ensure faster delivery of mail (Ebert and Griffin (2005).  Technology positively affects mail packaging through manufacture of high quality and cheaper packaging materials.  This is bound to increase the volume of sales, especially since the fall in prices of packaging materials makes them more affordable. According to Pour and Khosrowpour (2006), new technology has also enabled people to use faster means of communicating as opposed to use of mail.

Such means include the use of the Internet to ‘chat’, use of cell phones, emails and other means of communication.  This is a negative effect of technology on mail packaging business, since it reduces the volume of mail, thereby lowering profits.

In the supply business, technology has helped provide faster and more efficient services in supply operations (Moore and Gooderl, 2008).  Technology, specifically computer software, has made it relatively easy to track stock movements.  The whole supply chain can be automated, which makes it easier to monitor stocks.  Technology has also made it easier to request stock and deliver it in the least possible duration.  Advances in the transport and communication sectors have made it easy to communicate and transport the necessary supplies.

It is very important to keep up to date with the advancement in technology since competitors will use this opportunity to attract more clients.  In order to stay up to date with the current advancement in technology, I would use the Internet.  I would regularly surf the Internet in order to acquaint myself with technological advances.  I would also subscribe to magazines which discuss supply and mail industry, and this will also enable me to be up to date with changes in technology.

Summary and conclusion.

Technology has played a major role in changing the lifestyle of humans.  It has brought speed, efficiency and effectiveness when conducting various day to day activities.  However, there are negative aspects which have come with technology and it is important to analyze them as well. The positive attributes which affect the mail and supply industry should be used to their advantage.  This will enable all the stakeholders in these industries to attain their goals and objectives.
