Canon USA assignement Essay
Dear Fujio Mitarai:
I have recently decided to purchase a digital camera, and after a great deal of comparison shopping, I am most interested in the Canon Powershot S80. In addition to its superior reviews in Consumer Reports, my friends own a less expensive version of the Powershot and they have only good things to say about it. I would like to ensure that this is the right camera for me, as I plan to purchase a camera in the higher end of the price range. Please take the time to read my questions. I have enclosed an SASE for your response.
I am a 40 year-old man and I have different needs for this camera. My first concern involves taking pictures of my children. Some pictures are organized and planned, and for those pictures, I could use any camera and produce a great picture. My concern, however, are those spontaneous moments in which I need to take a picture quickly. First, I need to know how quickly I can get the camera ready to take a picture; does it need to warm up, either to take pictures or to get the flash ready to work? Also, children can be rather unpredictable

My children often want to take pictures themselves, and my usual solution to this problem is to give them an older, less expensive camera to use for this purpose. As a result, they are somewhat experienced with taking photographs, and sometimes these photos are quite good. I would like my children to get a handle on how to treat an expensive camera, so I intend to teach them to use the Powershot. Are there any safety features in place for a less experienced photographer who might, for example, accidentally delete pictures? Also, should the camera be dropped, how likely it is that it will break? Is there any protection built into the camera for this possibility?
I am an avid scuba diver and I enjoy taking pictures underwater. I have always been concerned with the lack of quality in pictures taken with most underwater cameras, and this is because they are not designed to shoot underwater, they merely have the outer protection to do so. The availability of underwater cameras is minimal at best; however, I notice that the Powershot S80 comes with an optional waterproof case to shoot up to 130 feet deep. First, how detailed are the directions that come with the case? If, for any reason, it was not assembled correctly, would the camera be ruined? Are there any features in the Powershot S80 that makes it ideal for taking pictures underwater? Finally, can I still get clear, detailed shots underwater?
When I am finished taking pictures, I would like to immediately print still photographs. If I don’t do it right away, I am likely to forget and leave the pictures in my camera (or on my computer for ages. The Powershot S80 has a “print/share” option. First, to which printers is this camera compatible? Next, I travel as often as possible and might be interested in using a printer that belongs to a friend or relative. Is it possible to connect the camera to any printer in order to print immediately, or does this feature require the installation of additional software?
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I look forward to your response.
