Chapter 5 Study Questions

What does Nick mean when he says “I realize now that under different circumstances that conversation might have been one of the crises of my life. But because the offer was obviously and tactlessly for a service to be rendered, I had no choice expect to cut him off there”?

Obviously, Daisy, with all her money, is not going to cry over some shirts; why does she cry?
She cries because she regrets not waiting for Gatsby because she could have been happy and rich.
As the three of them look across the bay toward Daisy’s house, the narrator states,”Possibly it had occurred to him that the colossal significance of that light had now vanished forever. Compared to the great distance that had separated him from Daisy it had seemed very near to her, almost touching her. It had seemed as close as a star to the moon. Now it was again a green light on a dock. His count of enchanted objects had diminished by one.”
