Common Good Essay

Common good can be described as a notion which bases its origin from the writings of Aristotle, Plato and Cicero in more than two thousand years in the past. Common good is best defined by John Rawls as some of general conditions which are equal for the advantage of every one (McGowan, and Mahon). The religious tradition of catholic, which has long history in struggling to promote and define common good, defines this term as the combination of social life conditions which allow individual members and social groups, ready and relatively thorough access to the fulfillment of their own interests.

Common good primarily consists of having social institutions, environments and systems on which employees depend on work in manner that can benefit all people. Examples of common good may include: just political and legal systems, natural environment which is not polluted, public healthcare which is affordable among others (Etzioni 53).

Aspects of common good should be applied in the organization since every employee can benefit from them as well as the organization. promote the interests of the employees to enable them work effectively and efficiently (McGowan, and Mahon).

Common good enables the organization to realize, no matter the contribution of the employees in the organization performance, technological and natural environments as well as the society also contributed to their success. It also helps them to realize that existing ideologies and institutions enables the organization in their daily activities.

In conclusion, the organization should take into account the use of common good in their activities and should not resist it because it can distract ethical issues which may be important to the employees.
