Crisis Management Plan
Crisis Management Plan requires efficient and skilled team apart from meticulous planning. Also CIRT must be properly trained in advance to circumvent any unforeseen situation. The four major aspects of CMP are (1) Preparation (2) Response (3) Recovery (4) Mitigation.
In case of fire accident in a major building the following phases have to be followed by CIRT for CMP.
Phase I – Pre-crisis be pro-active
Risk assessment as to what are the possibilities of fire occurrence and the level of fire or smoke that will spread in a span of time and percentage of damage that can be caused to the building, property and public.
Risk assessment of damage that can be caused by fire in the vicinity and further extension of fire if there are any fuel tanks or fire hazard warehouses [live stock, food products or chemicals ] or any residential apartments where electricity wiring that spreads the fire.
Risk assessment of parking areas for two wheelers and four wheelers in front of the building.
Risk assessment of percentage of capital loss or finance loss (cash boxes) or loss of human lives.

Plan must consist of fire safety office contact numbers, media personnel, hospital and first aid centers for ambulances and fire alarm security systems.
In every part of the building there must be arranged fire extinguishers and fire alarms even in elevators indicating instructions to the public in case of fire accident along with contact numbers displayed to act on time.
CIRT must quickly undertake evacuation of building on emergency and re-check that no one is left out in the building until the fire catches off.
An announcement must be made to the nearby residences about intimation of fire accident in the building and it is good to turn off all the entire electricity system or gadgets until further instructions are provided.
Phase II-Strategic phase – Get to work
§ Crisis Communication Plan (CCP) must be made available to common public and within premises of the building where fire accident has taken place about the level of damage and danger and effective steps for prevention of further damage.
§ Facilities such as another alternative shelter to transfer people from the place of fire accident must be arranged with further arrangements of food, water and communication systems to ensure safety and security of people.
§ A high alert security must be arranged near the building while telecasting news of fire accident in the television, newspapers, public announcements and also through emails.
§ A checklist must be issued to the public in case of evacuation of premises in vicinity to carry the necessities and to keep in contact with the local government officials until further notice is issued to get back to residences.
Phase III-Reactive phase
§ Support and legal guidance must be sought from local authorities about the occurrence of accident and a complete disclosure of facts of accident must be made available in au fait.
§ Media must be informed about complete details of accident and seek any kind of support that is required to catch the culprits if any or to verify the facts of occurrence of fire accident.
§ The statements made by one of the senior person in the organization, only be considered as a collective voice, with the fact that “too many chefs spoil the broth”.
Phase IV – Recovery
§ Arrange for immediate renovation of building with the medium of claim of insurance funds from insurance company.
§ A public and caution notice within the building disclosing to the public how the fire accident is caused and what the precautionary measures that can be taken in the future and the responsibility of public in this regard.
§ Detail how the recovery has been made and measures of safety & security to prevent further damage, provide appropriate fire accident knowledge to the public against damage of property or loss of lives.
§ Can also raise funds from public in order to reclaim or renovate the premises.
