There are several causes for this conflict in the production company that are related to workforce, resources, and inability of understand the significance of other departments’ tasks. Starting from the first cause, the company is facing shortage in terms of its workforce where the employees are less than the number of tasks to be done. Since the company is growing so the existing employees have to spend more time doing those similar tasks or take help from the other department’s personnel that results in the loss of other department’s productivity.

Lack of sufficient resources might be another cause for less number of employees because it takes several other resources such as, office space, equipments, and payrolls for recruiting more employees to work. And finally, there seems to be a lack of understanding regarding the importance of each other’s tasks. Answer – 3 If I were Sims, I would not have approached Jose Martinez in a complaining manner where the Rankin’s refusal in cooperating towards accounting tasks would be highlighted.

In fact, I would have approached him in a way where I would have made him aware of the increasing concerns regarding the overburden of tasks and lesser quantity of workforce available to handle them. Although if I were Sims, I would be under pressure since accounting tasks would be increasing, but I would have kept my emotions aside when communicating this issue to Martinez. To make him aware about this problem, I would have chosen the Problem Solving technique for conflict management where the problem is presented and several varied points of view are collected to evaluate it and find the most feasible solution for it.

Moreover, I would have used the Problem-solving process to grab Martinez’s attention, interest, and willingness to do something about it rather than just giving a statement that does not show any cooperation in any way. Not only this, it would be much better for me to address this problem by highlighting the negative consequences that the company would face as whole, if effective measures are not taken beforehand. This communication style would not have any biasness in the speech such as, for personal benefit or relief.

Furthermore, Martinez would have appreciated that I am showing interest towards improving company’s circumstances. Answer – 4 The style Sims initially used was like the one in which she was portraying herself as important, powerful, and the one who should be the center of gravity for all other personnel in the organization. Moreover, she is showing her work as very significant that must be done at all costs, no matter what other employees have to sacrifice in their own jobs. Sims used a direct approach where she just complained about Rankin’s unwillingness to give his time to her for completing her tasks.

She did not use the indirect approach where she could have made the overall situation prominent to Martinez, emphasized on the need for appropriate solutions, and the consequences that might occur if the problem is not taken seriously. Answer – 5 There is no doubt that Sims’ communication was not effective in nature that is why it failed to grab Martinez’s attention and willingness to do something about the situation. In order to gain Martinez’s attention over the problem, Sims could have used the Problem-solving techniques for managing the conflict or the then situation.

This technique involves the used of Problem-solving process that has six core steps to solve a particular problem. Sims could have introduced the problem as a whole and not just her own overwhelming by the tasks, after which both of them could have analyzed the problem by understanding its nature and negative upshots. Once they would have done with it, they could have conducted a brainstorming session where several possible solutions to that problem could be generated by many employees.

Gathering alternatives or solutions would not have sufficed, because the evaluation of those alternatives would be necessary in order to find the best fit with the problem. Based on the analysis or voting done for the best possible solution, it could have been selected by taking everyone in consent so as to avoid any uprising of conflicts.
