Effective Leadership Style
If I were given the choice to choose which type of a leader I would choose, I’d say that it should depend on the situation. There are two basic types of leadership, the task-oriented and the people-oriented. Some situations call for a leader to be more task-oriented. If the type of tasks are of high-speed and the number of people can be too massive to control, being task-oriented is the only choice. Another situation where task-oriented leadership is applicable is if the team members are self-motivated, highly competent and focused on their goals and tasks.
On the other hand, there are also situations which require a leader to be people-oriented. Team members who are not motivated, not highly competent or skilled require a leader to be people-oriented. How would being people-oriented motivate team members? Being people oriented means giving importance and significance to the value of manpower in the accomplishment of goals. There is thus a need to explain and communicate tasks and goals to team members. Clarifying goals to team members is the basic foundation for motivating them.
