When it comes to mobile devices, ex. architecture is simply not suitable because of high power consumption. As a result, a vast majority of today’s mobile devices run on ARM architecture for processors because this architecture consumes much less power.
Intel has been fighting ARM architecture with a variety of architectures of its own but without much success so far. Going forward, Intel is likely to start competing effectively with ARM based on its Bay Trail Atom platform. When Apple transitioned to AY chip, it was a big deal in some ways because it was a transition from 32 bit to 64 bit. At the investor meeting, Intel talked about a 64 bit chip for Android. A 64 bit chip has an advantage in that it can address more memory and process applications written for 64 bit more efficiently. Intel and Apple already have a close relationship regarding JPL’s.
