Exercise in Empathy within the workplace
For the last five years I have worked for a garment manufacturing company located in my city. In the beginning, I worked at the garment cutting department where I worked for three years. Afterwards, I was promoted to the position of a supervisor where I was allocated ten employees to supervise and report to the head of department. Many complaints have arisen from employees about unfair treatment from the management of the company.
The ten employees I supervised were composed of three female and seven male workers. It happened that one of the female employees was pregnant and required a paid maternity leave. Since the company was experiencing a peak season, it restricted employees from taking leaves. In this case, the worker was restricted from taking hers by denying leave her allowances. In my own opinion, the worker was mistreated since employees have a right to seek leaves when they feel it is necessary.
The management lack proper understanding about the diversified needs of their workers and used uniform laws to regulate their employees. The management never understood the needs of the worker and this was the cause of the mistreatment. A better way to handle the situation would have been discussing
