In an organisation teams play a key role in the success and motivation of a business. When working in a team you need to have different types of people to have different. A team must work together and motivate each other in order to achieve their goals; they must also recognise each others weaknesses and strengths to work on them so the team can progress. Teams must manage what work needs to be done and what roles each member has to take on. Teams frequently have a leader; they can be managers or supervisors. A team must respect each other and respect to their teams views and opinions.

They must encourage each other to keep them focused on work. There are many different types of teams to suit what the company needs. One of them is a formal team; this is for a specific purpose. It is classed as an official team and is set up to do a formal task by the manager. Each team member will have a specific role e. g. in a sales team there would be a manager and co-ordinator. They also have rules which they must follow and each member would have a specific role.

There is a disadvantage to this team, they might get board of having the same role and may want to do something new.

An informal team develops in a less structured way e. g. a student team who are organising there school prom, this is much less professional than a formal team and has rules but not as strict as formal. They tend not to have a specific role but all have individual or group tasks to be complete. It also can have some bad affects such as lack of structure which results to less professionalism. These teams can have different sizes. It depends on what the task is but it tends to be little tasks. The size usually is a small number such as.

As this is an odd number if they have a disagreement between the team members there will always be a majority vote. There is also a temporary project or task team; they are set up for a short time for completion of a specific task or project. This can be a construction team they have a task to complete the building of a house, this is not on going it has an end. This is not so good as the team members might be out of work for a period of time. A permanent team is the same as a task team but is ongoing. These are often working together continuously such as a call centre team.

They are always together and working as a team to get their task done. Again the team members can easily get bored of doing the same task for a very long period of time. A management team is team with managers. They are directly responsible for managing the everyday tasks, operations and profit of a company. They advise other team members and talk to them about any problems they are having. They discuss how well the team is doing and how they can improve them. In a management team they tend to have group discussions rather than individuals.

A team member could have individual problems. Problem solving team is a way of making a way to get through a problem. They will help a team or a manager with a problem and resolve by giving them an action plan. The rules for a problem solving team are just to give good ideas and listen as well as contribute. A disadvantage of this could be that not everyone will have the same problem solving idea and would not be happy with the end result. Work teams do the regular duties and tasks; they are a self directed group of employees.

They are responsible for there goals, quality controls. Work teams are most useful when the job content changes frequently and if employees skills are limited. This can be a team working in a clothing store on a certain floor, skills are limited and they have certain tasks they do on a regular basis. They also could be tired of doing the same things on a regular basis and may want to move on to do something else. Quality circles are a team that works together solve work based problems or to help progression in a work place which are mainly quality of performance problems.

They use management techniques and are usually in small teams of 5-10 who are voluntary employees e. g. student reps are voluntary and have meetings on how they can improve the college/university. A lot of the time team members will not agree and this could result to a member leaving, but as it is an odd number they are obliged to go with the majority vote. A Virtual team is communicating via electronics such as the internet or telephone. They can be in the same building or they can be in different parts of the world.

The team members can complete tasks at home; they have independent roles but also help there other team members. An example of this can a banking organisation, they can communicate with each other about money transactions and any problems they are facing. This team can be badly affected with technical problems such as slow internet or bad signal, this could be crucial for the organisation. Benefits of teams are having more than one person to do a task, with more people it will be much easier and quicker as people have different skills and knowledge, some better than others.

It also gives you other people opinions on what you are doing. It gives you more knowledge to a given task, and teams members can learn from one another and help each other out. Team members help the motivating grow by supporting each other. When working in a team each member will try and complete tasks equally which would make everyone happy. Also a benefit is to create a positive synergy is another way of saying people working together. I. e. you can lift 50 pounds with your right arm and 50 pounds with your left, but 150 pounds using both arms.
