What should be established at this point is the fact that whether we like it or not, whether it is desirable or not, there would always be organizational change. This is because the origination does not operate alone. In the running of an organization, there are several factors that must be considered. The first thing that must be pointed out here is that organizations have their root in a particular community. This means that as there are alterations in the community, there should be a simultaneous change and alteration in these organizations.
Invariably, as things change, it has an effect on the structure of the organization and therefore, any organization that wants to keep itself in operation must recognize this and device a way to adapt to these changes. Once we have established the fact that organizational changes are inevitable, it places us on a better pedestal to prepare for the future. Once we have the understanding that things would not always be the way they are, it would be easier for us to adapt to these changes.
However, the question that should be asked here is what will the future bring in relation to organizational change when we consider the current trends, including technology, globalization, economics, competition, social trends and geopolitics? ” Generally, there are two main sources of organizational change namely the internal and the external sources (Connor, Lake & Stackman, 24). However, for the purpose of this essay, focus would be drawn on the external sources.
External sources of organizational change occur as a result of the social, political, technological and economic atmosphere of the organization. I would be assessing the future of organizational change in the light of the noticeable trends that has been in operation in these sectors. Unlike before, the rate at which organizational change has been made in different organizations has been alarming. This has made me come to the conclusion that things are changing at a faster rate unlike before.
Taking a queue from this, I would like to argue that with the rate changes are happening in our community, the future is bound to witness more of these organizational changes. Why do I make this claim? My reasons are enumerated below. Assessing the future of organizational change from the economic angle, organizational change would occur provided there is a shift in the economical condition. Whenever there is an expansion of the economy, there is bound to be a corresponding expansion in the financial condition of organizations.
At such time, the conglomerates flourish and this would lead to the overall expansion of the organization or company. On the other hand, when there is a regress in the economy of the country, this would affect the financial condition of the organization. A direct effect of this is that the organization would be forced to cut down its cost and expenses. This period is typically categorized with reduction of worker’s salary, layoffs of staffs, mergers and acquisitions, cutbacks and business failures (Connor, Lake & Stackman, 24).
A typical example is what is happening to the American organizations and companies, especially the banks and investment institutions. The Wall Street crisis has caused several organizations to scramble for a way out and have been forced to either cut down their expenses, merger or gradually go out of business. Furthermore, one thing that we can be sure of is that there would always be technological developments. However, these technological developments come with their consequences too.
For instance, as machines are invented, there would be duplication of roles in organizations. This might lead to retrenchment of staffs that are doing the same tasks that the machine does. Apart from this, improved communication and transportation makes things faster and easier (Connor, Lake & Stackman, 24), and organizations that want to remain in operation would scramble for ways of adapting to and incorporating these improvements. The political environment would automatically cause organizational change.
