A famous saying “failing to plan is planning to fail” speaks lengths about the importance for planning. For any organization to succeed an effective planning strategy must be made. “Strategic planning is identifying how your business can realistically secure opportunities given the company’s environment and existing resources” (MBDA, 2004). Since the environment that we work in is extremely volatile and unpredictable, planning for the unknown helps organizations cope with unseen incidents.
In a business environment, resources are costly and often hard to acquire. Without a proper planning function, the organization will never be able to acquire the right amount of resources in the right time and at the right cost. Planning enables an organization to forecast the requirements of the future and send orders for resources before time so that organizational goals can be achieved. (McNamara, 2008)
Strategic planning is called strategic since it allows the organization to follow a specific strategy and plan accordingly. If planning is done accurately and smartly, there is no reason why the organization wouldn’t succeed.

Compliance is often a strategic for most organizations and it is true for healthcare organizations in particular due to the importance of human life. Planning to achieve this strategic goal will lead the organization to do things according to the guidelines set and implement the changes required to make an organization compliant.
For organizations the first thing do in strategic planning is to build strong mission and vision statements along with explaining the underlining values. These statements should ideally show the importance the organization gives to life and compliance of principles. Next an organization conducts its internal survey to find how and what needs to be done to bring the organization in-line with the set mission. Finally the plan is implemented according to the specified goals.
