Improvements of Technology
Technology seems to appear at a rate that increases in geometric fashion, without geographical limits and political systems slowing it down. This is why globalization was able to put global society so easily within the past years. Communications satellites could now bring important events to anyone across the globe in a matter of minutes. Internet, cell phone and fax machine permit instantaneous communication that diminishes national boundaries and territory .
The World Wide Web and personal computers are the latest tools for business transactions, giving people greater mobility and control with their money than the traditional method of transacting business could offer . Cisco Systems, for instance, subcontract the rest of its work to other companies around the world using the Internet. The improvement in air transportation and oceangoing going vessels has fastened the delivery service of companies around the world. Advancement in transportation has also permitted major companies to subcontract manufacturings to foreign factories.
Cell phones, personal computers, TV and other products get better every time though the use of technology. Technology has opened and created possible trade routes and business probabilities that were in favor for globalization. In the least sense, technology made the world smaller through it mobility and connected people across the globe like they are just one’s next door neighbor. Globalization merely legalized all of these achievements and incorporated them to its ideals.
This is why the process of globalization was easily accepted by various governments across the globe. Technology was after all, an essential part of development and an important factor in raising the standard of living. B. Through globalization, information technology and communication achieved greater heights over the past years. Due to the rapid expansion of trade operations and business expansions, satellite connections were needed to establish and maintain communications around the world and to monitor changes about stock value.
The World Wide Web became more convenient and more helpful for student like me since it could now provide various and up to date information. I could now perform small kinds of business transactions like selling various items for a lower price at EBay or purchased books, games, or anything online at Amazon and have them delivered to my house at the fastest time available. I could now access journals, articles and even library databases to help me with my assignment such as these. I could even open a personal bank account just using my computer.
I could even see distant relatives in a matter of minutes through live feeds or call them anytime I want through cell phones. At the same time, globalization made us more dependent on gadgets especially the computer to do our bidding. We surf the net for possible reference and source for assignments but we do just take them for formal proceedings. Access to information has no limits and most of the time, sites that contain nudity and extreme violence could be viewed by children who are not yet prepared to know them.
Dangerous information like how to create a bomb, suicide related information and other things considered as inappropriate for children of an early age could be accessed freely. Based on past experience, things like these affect personal growth and behavior not to mention the personality that they would get from being exposed to these information. Globalization has its own positive and negative effects. Students like us would be thankful since it gave us more access and power equal to that of adults. It made us more competitive and more alert, guiding us towards paths that could give us an easy life after school.
But accidents happen from time to time, the accessibility of various internet sites could lead us to a perilous path. There are web sites that are connected to terrorist organizations and are rumored to be recruiting young ones into their groups. Some of this actually happen and its effect could be disastrous to children of early age if not supervised by a parent. But most of the time, parents are away at work and activities like these are easy to hide especially for children who are engrossed with computers.
What the researcher is saying is that, globalization must not focus only on expanding the market and loosening trade laws and regulations. Pioneers and people behind the spread of globalization should also consider the protection of young minds from being corrupted by hazardous information that may be influential in their growth and may be a contributor of future problems.
