Influencing a larger audience through writing
How can ideas, opinions, and beliefs that are personally important to us be communicated in a way that resonates with a larger audience? Communicating our ideas or the thoughts is one of the important aspects of human being. Some of the thoughts are confined only to a person and the thoughts of social concern are usually a common concern to a greater audience. The effectiveness of the communication lies in understating the attitude and the ideas of the general public and the way they would perceive our personal idea.
Once this understanding is obtained, getting a fair idea on how this idea could be effectively communicated is easily framed. This may be different in different situations, which depends upon the belief system of an individual and the temperament in which he has been groomed. But when it comes to the current issues and the issues of great social concerns, the attitude of the larger audience is determined more by the media and the other information systems, which are to be considered while communicating our personal ideas.
In this way, if a detailed analysis is made on how the ideas of the greater audience are created around an issue, the personal ideas or the opinions could be effectively communicated in a way it would resonate with a larger audience. How does the consideration of other people’s experience affect the examination of our own assumptions and beliefs about personal experiences? A single thought or an idea can create different outcomes or reaction or mental activity in different persons. Spiritually speaking, emptiness is the real form.
Form is emptiness and emptiness is form (Suzuki 41). It is based upon the past experience and the attitude of an individual the perspective is formed about a thought or a belief. In the same manner, our mental reaction to an idea may be greatly different from that of the other person. At times, it may happen that both the ideas are the extremes. When we compare the experience or the thought of the other person, we may be able to develop a more neutral idea which may be more realistic.
The other greater advantage from the view point of the communication is that, we can make our idea more presentable and greatly acceptable. How can attention to purpose and audience in writing help us to think more critically about a topic? As already mentioned, a single thought may create a different opinion or build up a different perspective in different persons. So, when we take into consideration the purpose of our writing and the topic while thinking it from the perspective of the audience, we get more clarity about our topic itself.
Moreover, we would get an opportunity to analyze the thought from a different angle, keeping us just an observer. If we start analyzing why such a thought has got a possibility to create such a particular response from a greater audience, it would give a lot of ideas for us to refine our thought to present it in an appropriate manner. For example if I would get into my personal experience, I wont be much in favor of creating differences in the identity of an individual based upon his ethnicity or color. But there are many who may take a stand against that.
This may be the wider difference between the two groups of stakeholders. But in each of these two groups, there would be a difference among a single group also. This is based upon the strength with which they oppose or accept that idea which is also based upon their individual attitude and the perspective towards that particular topic of concern. Also a particular issue or a thought might have different dimensions: cultural, ethical, social, etc which may be the factors that create a different perspective in respective individuals.
Once we decide to communicate a certain thought to a specific audience, it is really necessary to think from their perspective to match our perspective in an appropriate manner to create acceptance for our thoughts. So, it is very important to keep the attention on the purpose and the audience while framing our thoughts in an effective manner to sensitize a greater audience and create a similar implication in their thought process through our effective writing. What does the writing process have to do with the thinking process?
For a writing to be impressive and convey the right message to the right set of audience, the thinking that has to be put into that writing also needs to be of a greater quality and highly introspective and analytical. If the writing is introspective, it becomes more creative and if its includes analysis considering the personal views in the light of the views of the general public, it can easily attract the audience and convey the message that it has to convey in an effective manner.
Before putting the words into the paper, it is necessary to reflect upon the issue to create a clear idea from different angles for ourselves. This will help to conceptualize in a better manner on what we are going to write. The flow of the writing is very important, in a manner, integrating all the important views of the belief or a opinion. This is made possible only by a good thinking a reflective writing. In short, the words are sharper and convey the right message if the thinking is sharp and creative.
The thinking also helps to create a mental framework to put the thoughts, which would help in bringing all the necessary information with right analysis. Once the well reflected mental framework is put in black and white, then the thinking process has to be concentrated upon pulling the right thoughts and filling the framework. If this process is done efficiently, the writing will have the power to mesmerize the audience and convey the right thought in a right manner. In this way the thinking and writing are closely knitted.
