...e use of computers, with the loss of what was very skilled jobs.
Even though some jobs have been lost there is an increased demand in jobs for those with skills in IT, there is a large demand for IT consultants ans systems analysts as companies want to expand there business and improve there system that they use, a company may operate a a paper based payroll system and find that if they increase the numbers of people that they employ it just is not practicle to operate such a system and then they need to employ a systems analyst to create a new computerised system that is more efficient than having a paper based system and it means that records can be stored eaiser. A job that may have taken three or four people to do may now only take one person using a computer to do it. There four having a loss of social interaction between employees, as they don’t have anyone who is doing the same job as them who has the same working in the same area.
In an office that has many computers in it there is always a health and safety risk involved. Sitting at a computer for a long time can cause health problems for people and lots of wires cause a hazard that people can trip over. Many computers cause a room to become very hot and could become uncomfortable to work in. Video conferencing has now become an option for many companies. Although it has a large initial cost to set the system up it stops costs being incurred due to flights to other offices often in different countries and enables meetings to take place on two or more different locations globally without anyone having to leave their own office. The large costs initially are saved when transport and accommodation costs are not having to be spent on for meetings in different areas or different countries.
Computers enable jobs to be done at much greater speeds and allow for home working. A mother with a child could work from a remote location which would be her home and be able to do her normal job and then be able to access any information she needs to do it form the works computers via the internet, and then also be able to send the finished work back to the office. The down side to this is that there is no social interaction between other employees or n creativity.
Ideas can not be expressed between other employees on how to improve the services that they can offer. It also leads to the loss of a home life as there is no distinguishable feature between home or work, as they do there work at home. If they are working at home then none will know just how long they work during the day, it may be possible for them to claim a time that they have worked but in actual fact they worked for a shorter time than they claimed.
The internet has made accessing information a lot easier for many people, it also has the down side that it is often not secure and personal information can be accessed by people who you would not wish to have it. If you had bought a product in a internet store the it would be possible for someone to get your credit card details and use it to run up debt on your credit card. If someone can access all your details it may be possible for them to steal you identity they may go around using your name and details. Therefore IT has advantages and disadvantages to the impact of life through its development.
