The mission and vision statement of Jet Blue Airways Corporation is reflected in its core values and principles created and set by the company. In lieu of its mission statement, a strategic set of core values is being presented by Jet Blue Airways Corporation. These core values include safety, caring attitude, integrity, fun, and passion (Meingast, 2003, p. 1). The commitment of the company towards safety is the first priority in all business operations. In order to do so, company adherence to rules and regulations implemented by regulatory agencies is done whenever is needed. Maintaining high standards in a consistent manner is the primary goal of the company when it comes to safety matters. Accordingly, the company never compromises safety of its crewmembers and customers during and after flights. The company also takes social responsibility for the benefit of the people in general and strives to be a role model in the business community.

The author humbly submits in this paper that Jet Blue Airways Incorporated follows its stated vision, mission, and core values. There are myriad reasons and evidences to prove that Jet Blue Airways is being true to its vision, mission and core values. First, Jet Blue Airways actively participates in environmental care activities which reflect its core value of caring attitude and passion. The company hosted an environmental volunteer activity under the banner and initiative “One Thing That’s Green” last April 19, 2008 in New York City (“Jet Blue Airways to celebrate Earth Day by supporting New York tree planting event”). The crewmembers of the airline company participated with other volunteers in a tree planting activity at New York’s East Harlem neighborhood during Earth Day celebration. The primary reason that the company participated in the event is to become stewards of the environment by helping in the protection and preservation of the environment programs. Besides, the said participation the company is a realization of its social responsibility to lessen its environmental impact (“Jet Blue Airways to celebrate Earth Day by supporting New York tree planting event”).

Second, Jet Blue Airways Incorporated does not only care for its employees for the public as well. The company partnered with Nickelodeon in the promotion of “Jet Back to School with Blue” program. Members of a nonprofit organization named First Book help in the distribution of first new books to children from low-income families in Long Beach (“Press Releases”). With that, it is clear that Jet Blue Airways Incorporated is committed with the enrichment of the lives of children and remains true to its core values of caring, passion and fun. The joy that they brought to children of low-income families is a thrilling experience for those who took part of the book-giving activity and an opportunity to build literacy awareness among parents and their children.

Third, Jet Blue Airways projects a commitment in its decision-making processes to prioritize the safety of its crewmembers and customers. The company’s plans may not be perfect but when a winter storm affected many flights at East Coast, Jet Blue Airways Incorporated canceled flights before the storm destroyed the area (“Company Watch-Jet Blue Airways”). Other flights are also cancelled in order to avoid damage that might be caused by the winter storm. The decision of the airline company to cancel East Coast flights and other flights in order to avoid possible damages of the winter storm is proper and tenable as it shows care for all people involved. Therefore, the core values of caring attitude, passion and safety are being practiced by the company.

Fourth, the company bridges the leadership gap between its crew leaders and crewmembers in order to achieve reliable and premier services to the public in general. The basic rule of the airline company is to execute better way of doing business (“Jet Blue Bridges Leadership Gap with Comprehensive Development Program for Crew Leaders”). Due to leadership gap created by rapid growth of Jet Blue Airways, a development program as created for the crew leaders of the company. A program called Principles of Leadership series was designed which resulted to superior customer experience (“Jet Blue Bridges Leadership Gap with Comprehensive Development Program for Crew Leaders”).  The company apparently wanted to improve its services to its clients by training its leaders first in such a manner that they would set a good example to its members. Crew leaders must become engaged employees, so that profitability can be achieved in the business organization. Hence, the purpose of training the crew leaders of the company is threefold: to develop leadership skills of the crew leaders, to improve customer service and to achieve high rate of profitability.

Fifth, the company created their Customer Bill of Rights for the benefit of the public since airline business is imbued with public interest. The Customer Bill of Rights is designed to project the highest degree of security and safety for its customers and crewmembers (“Jet Blue’s Customer Bill of Rights”). Jet Blue Airways promised to notify its clients ahead of time in case a delay on its scheduled departures happens. The airline company also offers reliable operational system in cases of cancellations, departure delays, on board ground delays on departure, overbooking, and in-flight entertainment.

Finally, it has been proven that Jet Blue Airways follows its vision, mission, and core values. Due to its innovative and reliable programs, the company was able to emerge unscathed and successful amidst tough competition in the airline industry. Here are the evidences to prove that Jet Blue Airways is true to the implementation of its mission, vision, and core values to the public. First, Jet Blue Airways actively participates in environmental care activities which reflect its core value of caring attitude and passion. Second, Jet Blue Airways Incorporated does not only care for its employees for the public as well. Third, Jet Blue Airways projects a commitment in its decision-making processes to prioritize the safety of its crewmembers and customers. Fourth, the company bridges the leadership gap between its crew leaders and crewmembers in order to achieve reliable and premier services to the public as a whole. Fifth, the company created their Customer Bill of Rights for the benefit of the public since airline business is imbued with public interest. Nowadays, Jet Blue Airways Incorporated remains to be one of the most prestigious and reputable airline carriers in the United States.
