Leadership Course

In terms of Equity theory, Officer Simpson’s comparison is being done with Officer Bullis. Officer Bullis holds the same rank that Officer Simpson holds and is a candidate for the rank of Sergeant. Officer Bullis is not at all devoted to his job and does it with a non serious attitude, most of the time he is just sitting around sipping coffee and shuffling papers. Whereas, Officer Simpson is a hardworking person and she tries her best to put her maximum efforts in the job.

(Robbins & Judge, 2008) Officer Simpson efforts made her deserving for the promotion but, instead of getting promoted she heard the news that Officer Bullis was more likely to get the promotion. ended up giving poor performance and mismanaging the events. (Robbins & Judge, 2008) Qs. 3) Answer: If I were the leader, then, instead of taking notice of a few events I would have analyzed the overall performance of Officer Simpson. As she did well in the tasks allocated to her in the past I would have rewarded her accordingly.

I would have applauded her brilliant efforts made towards development of programs and community education, and would have motivated her and guided her towards the implementation of those programs. She did not know much about implementation so I would have supported her in all possible ways and provided my expertise to rightly implement those well formed programs. These confidence boosting steps of mine would have definitely restored Officer Simpson’s equity and raised the low Expectancy. References Robbins, S. P. & Judge, T. A. (2008).
