MacDonald’s and Parenting
One lazy afternoon I have nothing to do but sit around waiting for another day to come. Since had been out of the television media for a while, I have decided to switch on the television. After surfing around, I have seen nothing interesting that would catch my attention. After surfing various channels it seems like television shows have gone uninteresting in my perspective. Now, I remember why I have not been watching television shows for weeks now! After giving up in looking through the shows available, I just stick to one channel so I will be able to hear sounds to accompany me during such a lazy day.
After taking a big bowl of chips and landing on my sofa I looked in the television and I saw a commercial from MacDonald’s. It seems like a couple was racing towards their house to bring each of their happy meals for their son. As weird as it sounds, I do think that the commercial brings about logic of choosing one favorite parent. The happy meal was handed by the father to the son but later on the son hugged his mom to thank. I do question this kind of commercialism. Do

I for one was given by my father happy meals when I was younger. I was also given some happy meals by my mother. I do think that Mac Donald’s have created a limitation of actions allowed to do by a parent for his or her child. It is true that mothers are much more affectionate and caring with children. But then again men could also be affectionate and caring with their children. After seeing the commercial of MacDonald’s I was commenting on the scene and blurting out my feelings by myself. Okay, let’s say I was conversing with myself—literally. The commercial made me truly disappointed with MacDonald’s.
I do believe and associate the fast food restaurant as a family area where children can play and bond with the whole family. But it seems to me that MacDonald’s see parenting as a competition rather than responsibility. It does not matter if a parent is a mother or a father what matters is what type of child they would raise. It bothers me that people in the marketing industry is again setting a societal conflict with the ad they have provided for the masses to see. It would really be interesting to see how single fathers would react to such television commercial.
