are 3 functions. The first function is the Monitor where the manager looks for information in the environment. It can be in verbal form, gossip, hearsay or speculations. The second function is the Disseminated where the managers pass the information directly to the subordinates in their unit. The third function is the Spokesperson role here the managers send some of their information to people outside their units.

The third role of a manager is the Decisional Roles which also the most critical role of a manager. The first function is the Entrepreneur where the manager seeks to improve the unit or to adapt it to changing conditions in the environment. The second function is the Disturbance handler where the manager involuntary responds to different pressures. The third function is the resource locator where the manager decides who will get what in his organizational unit. The last function is the Negotiator where the manager acts as a negotiator in a contingency that may arise.

There are 5 skills that a manager needs to be effective. The first one is keeping well informed, being informed means being prepared for tomorrow. Having good information may give you different view points on an issue, which can help you solving the problem. The second skill is Focusing Time and Energy; you should know how to save time and energy in solving problems. You should be wise in analyzing which one you will solve first. The third skill is playing the Power Game. A successful manager is sensitive to the power structure of the organization.

He or she should know how to play the cards. The fourth skill is the art of imprecision where the manager knows how to satisfy the organization that it has a sense of direction without ever actually getting himself committed publicly to a set of objectives. Lastly Muddling with a purpose where managers is willing to take less than total acceptance in order to achieve modest progress towards his goals. 3. Define the importance of management functions.
