In developed countries, there are highly competitive environment which hotel sectors are currently operating. Groschl and Doherty asserted that there are problem of skilled work force and hotel specialists for the Hotel industry to benefit from Diversity management (Groschl and Doherty,1999) and if the hotels sectors want to force themselves in the implementation of diversity management, there would be failure in the industry. Thus, the research conducted on the different hotels in various countries of the words shows that hotels industries are still lacking behind in harness the diversity management.
In San Francisco, USA, research conducted by Groschl and Doherty reveals that there are slow pace of management diversity in the hotel sectors in this megalopolis. (1999 p. 266). Moreover, Hughes reveals in his research article that in Ontario, Canada, many hotels are still finding it difficult to grasp the effectiveness of management diversity in their various hotels. (Hughes 1999. P. 396). Thus, it is noted there are rapidly increasing in the International travel over the recent decades. James and S. J.
in their research article, asserted that because cultures are different from each other and this has made people to be different from each other and has been the reason behind the divergence in perception about the way of life and thought. (James and S. J,2003) Despite the inability of different countries of the world for not being able to fully benefit from the advantages of what diversity management could offer to the organisational success, there are still argument that management diversity has several commercial values which any organisation that is aiming to grow in this competitive environment should not ignore.
Cassell in his book asserts that human resources are the key to any organisational success and it must be fully utilise to the maximum advantage. (Cassell 1996 ). Maxwell and Murray further argue that the success of UK hotel industry lies in the development of equality opportunities at work, their realisation the management diversity is a way to the development. (Maxwell and Murray 1997).
Moreover, Michael J Piore in his article titled “Diversity in Economic Organisations: An American Perspective on the Implication of European Integration for the Economic Performance of Japan” analysed the importance of the diversity has done in the American economy. He asserted that, the increase in the immigration of different ethnic group from Latin America, Asia and Caribbean has contributed to direct product innovation and direct economic boom. He further argues that this influx has created pool of knowledge and cheap labour as well as market for American tourist industry.
(Piore 2000) Although , some writers like Hogue argues in his book that management diversity has not yet really offer any substantial benefit to the hotel sectors and its advantages are still being debatable. (1999). Schneider supported the argument of Hogue by establishing the fact that there are no real opportunity the managing diversity seem to offer and it did not improve the quality of service the hotel industry were offering to customers. (Hogue 1994) IMPACT OF DIVERSITY MANAGEMENT IN THE SELECTED HOTELS Maxwell G & ET la analysed the managing diversity and its impact in the hotel sectors (Maxwell 1997).
Maxwell used questioneer to conduct interview among different level of management. The level of management interviewed comprised of senior managers of human resource department and various hotel staff ranging from Hotel General manager to Housekeepers. The structure of interview used for all these group were the same and the questions asked in the interview papers were structured in a way that all the participants could explain their views on the impact of equal opportunities in the organisation and the impact of managing diversity on the quality of service provided by these organisation.
