The situation I would discuss here involves a team that has been experiencing conflicts as a result of handling diversity issues. The situation is a common one where a group consists of people from different backgrounds and cultures. The problem here is that all these people have different views and ideas and are not willing to accept ideas from other members of the group due to different attitudes and behaviors. This is affecting the productivity of the group and their results. Each member of the group disagrees from the other on some point or another and the environment for working has become stressful.

The team is working on a term report which studies the working environment or best practices in the manufacturing industry. The team consists of people from Asia, United States of America, United Kingdom and Australia. Each one has different perspective of some or most of the way businesses are run in their country. The team consists of 4 members each from different ethnic and cultural background with a different history and values. The idea here is to bring diversity into use and obtain better and more useful results but understanding each other is not as easy as it

In this type of situation it is necessary for one or a number of members to take an initiative to solve the diversity conflicts among the group members. This needs to be achieved in order for the group to reach effective and efficient results in terms of their term report. We would need to imply a strategy that takes care of the diversity issue. First of all we need to educate the benefits of having diversity in the group. Diversity helps in achieving better and broad range of ideas. This is due to the fact that each person comes from a different background where different practices are carried out.

We need to pick a leader inside the group on which everyone should agree. A person that would lead and take major decisions should be made the group leader. Everyone should agree on a leader. The second step would be to sit down and listen to each other in order to get to know them better and understand the cultural differences present. This would lead to increase in the amount of flexibility towards each other (Michalle 2005). The third step would be to share ideas among the group members and then decide on ideas that suit the situation in the best possible way.

Every final decision is being taken by the leader and if anyone of the members has issues he or she needs to discuss them with each and everyone to solve them. Each and every member of the group needs to have effective communications skills. My communication skills as a group member would rely heavily on listening to other people and then presenting my view point. I can help the group my making communication possible through more interaction between the group members which would lead to the better understanding of each other in order to solve the diversity conflicts that have come up in the group.

It is also important for me to agree on others point of view as even if it does not match to mine but is more appropriate and effective logically(Michalle,2005,p65). In the end I would like to mention that as diversity brings issues with itself it also bring a lot of benefits.
