Management believes that what tends to motivate workers the most are such intangibles as being appreciated for the work they have done, being kept informed about things that affect them and having a sympathetic manager who takes the time to listen to them (Disney Meetings). There are also perks given to employees to encourage them to perform consistently at a heightened level. A reward can be as simple as a spa gift certificate or days off or fancy parties. As long as it fosters a sense of a job well-done, this will increase an employee’s desire to do the job well. It will result in a self-driven desire to work harder.
A sense of competence is fostered by their managers who make sure that employees have the abilities and support needed to achieve a high level of competence.
