The other dominant style is the pioneer who may be highly accomplished and effective in their work but may beat their selves up under pressure. Mentor Evaluation The organization which my mentor works for is the same organization I work for. My mentor’s job title is Quality Systems Manager, he evaluates each part of our organization to determine what changes can be made to make the agency more efficient and productive. The primary goal of my mentor is to help the employees to “prevent errors in their work, detect in defects and improve policies and procedures” (U. S. Food and Drug Administration, 2013).
The issues encountered in the organization is when individuals do not want to adapt to the changes and are not cooperative. Utilizing his winning attitude allows him to be successful in winning the employees over by encouraging their feedback and opinions. My mentor is a leader in the organization and according to his own assessment he is a Dominance style, but he has other attributes of the Master Mind because he “increases opportunities for the employees with his unique style and makes emphasis on their personal accomplishments” (University of Phoenix, 2013).
He utilized each individual’s feedback when incorporating changes and gives them credit for helping him make adjustments to the organizational plan. He told me it always worked because people wanted to feel like they were a part of the change and that they were an important part of the organization. When it was time for him to evaluate my department he came to me and asked me exactly what I did in my position, how long it took me to do certain parts of my job and he what ideas I have to make things run smoother in my current position.
I told him my ideas and feedback and he used many of my new ideas in the quality improvement plan for my department. The changes made my job better. He also suggested ideas in which he thought would help make my job easier and to help me to work faster. The new systems he gave me helped me keep track of my work, helped me prevent errors and gave me the confidence to try new ideas without being afraid of adding my input. Since he incorporated the new quality management system the organization has been able to become more productive by doing more inspections, completing more reports and save time when responding to inquiries from the public.
The new system did take time to put into effect, but has made the work easier for many people in the organization. One of the systems my mentor showed me was to ask an individual their opinion, by asking my team members for their opinions and ideas this will allow each individual to be able to participate in the work we can all discuss the ideas and everyone on the team has an opportunity to be a part of the team. Another system he discussed was giving accolades to team members and letting them know how they are a valued part of the team.
This helps because people seem to work better and faster when they feel they are doing a good job and they are receiving praise for their work. Using the DISC assessment and determining the majority of our team are dominant will allow the team to work in an orderly fashion. Allowing each team member to actively participate in the group exercises will make them work together more smoothly. Allowing full participation from all individual involved will make the group assignments and team run smoothly Using each team member ideas and exchanging ideas and giving accolades to the members will ensure success of Team D.
