Organizational change

Office Works Co. is a company that provides office area supplies and services. These include office equipment, cleaning and repair services for equipment and design solutions. Its division that manufactures and sells photo-copiers has been experiencing a downward spiral. The machines are outdated and losing market share. As a new manager, I have come up with a form of managerial change to turn things around. The Vision There three main types of organizational change; structure, technological and change concerning people. The division I have been hired for needs all three forms of change.

But structural change is the one needed most. Previously, the department head had to take care of the design and creative team, as well as the sales and marketing team. This put the division head under pressure and tasks could not be completed properly. The vision for the new structure and will be:

•Clear cut hierarchy in organizational structure. The department head will now have a creative design manager and a sales and marketing manager under him. The role of the department head will be to review their performances, guide them, make policies and communicate with higher management. This way funding can be handled better as well. • The design of the photo-copier shall be revamped with the hiring of a new creative/design manager and the collaboration of his team. This is technological change as well as change relating to people. So is the following; • The new marketing and sales manager will come up with a new marketing and advertising strategy to improve market share, with the collaboration of his team. Moving Towards Change Change can be a difficult thing to manage and sometimes employees resist change and make things even more difficult. To ensure a successful change, the following measures must be taken:

• Training programs to help employees adjust to the new form of management. (Transforming Organizational Structure, n. d)

• Active communication must be done. This can be meetings arranged with all employees so that all opinions are taken into account, no information is kept hidden and so that employees feel more involved and comfortable about the change.

• The meetings and trainings would include visual aids and charts so that employees can clearly understand the structure of the new organization. • Interview and hire people for the new managerial positions and once hired, hold meetings so that they get to know their teams.
