...urposeful part of an organizational system and it is always considered in an interpersonal framework. Having read the story from the article, it gives a clear example of organizational communication. The story gives a clear explanation of what the organization is all about as well as the role of communication within an organization. In the first place, organizations are the kind of places where individuals work purposely to get the work done. As far as communication is concerned, organizations are places in which individuals communicate in order to get the work done.

Individuals as well as communication are characteristically conceptualized as the inputs to the functioning of the organization. People should always communicate in a way that contributes a lot to the successful functioning of the organization (Michael 1996). However, the story that is provided by the Valley View Sergeant helps people in understanding what the output, input and organizational sequence are. In other words, the story is not talking so much about how the performances of the organizational personnel affect the organizational functioning.

The story is about how the organizational performance affects the organizational human resources. The sergeant from the story looks like the output for instance he looks like the product itself. For this reason, the aim of the research was to ascertain how an individual’s communication contributes towards the organizational functioning. So the paper is going to focus on what the organizational functioning contributes to an individual’s communication (Michael 1996).

When people are working while they are talking about work, they get the work being done as well as greasing the social machinery to get the work done. Regarding the aforementioned statement, these people present themselves as the individuals with exacting organizationally produced identities. However these same presentation of organizational self occurs as they locate themselves through their talk in particular relation to their job, to their communities, to their co-workers and finally to themselves as individuals.

Everybody who studies organizational communication is preoccupied with his or her relationship of organizational communication to organizational effectiveness whereby they have overlooked other functions of communication in an organization. This argument is of vital importance if at all people are really going to develop a comprehensive notion concerning the role of communication in an organization. The issue here is a genuinely humanistic distress for employee self-esteem.

However, in the organization all workers are not supposed to see work as an instrumental or social activity conversely they are supposed to see it as a moral activity. Talking about work reveals the particular moral posture of particular organizationally-produced identities (Michael 1996). Valley View Police Department is serving as an example of the organization that is showing how the talk is being used in the presentation of organizationally-determined identities and it at the same time shows how that particular talk reveals the moral posture of those organizationally determined identities.

In the police career, there are four identifiable stages: namely rookie, super corp, journey man and finally the old soldier. When one is at the rookie stage he or she is learning the ropes. Super cop stage comes immediately after the rookie and it is a stage that comes as the officer loses his rookie callowness and begins to understand the technical knowledge of police work. The characteristics of a supercop stage are: aggressive and nearly reckless performance of the duties of the police.

Journeyman is the stage that someone enters after having some experience from the super cop stage. The characteristics of journeyman are: greater awareness of someone’s own limitations as an officer, greater maturity and a less authoritarian approach towards the law enforcement. The concluding stage is that of old soldier and it occurs after gaining more experience hence the expectations of accomplishment of the officer and advancement is not met. This stage is rather a stage of cynicism and depression.

This stages clearly shows the cop identities and they reflect the organizationally-induced transformations that resulted right from qualitatively different exposure to the exigencies as well as experiences connected with the responsibility of the police officer (Michael 1996). Having a negative approach toward persons displays itself in very negative responses to people. Old soldiers are naturally vulgar and abrupt while dealing with the general public.

At the beginning of the article, one is able to see that a traditional notion of organizational communication makes people look at communication and individuals as outputs towards the organizational functioning. People should concentrate so much on the configurations of the personality character as well as communication strategies essential for effectual communication within the organization. The talk of the Valley View Cops as far as their organizational identities are concerned an intriguing as well as convincing demonstration of the potential of this particular approach.

The way people do conduct them selves or do their work externally, gives a clear understanding of the organizations. Good communication assists people to know the good side of the organization. From the article, everybody is at the position of looking at the organizational identities in a very systematic manner. They can start with the organizational self-presentations also attempt to fabricate categories of organizational identities hence they can go on with conventional categories of organizational identities and try to explain into details the communicative features of each (Michael 1996).

Organizational communication is not only a task or a social activity but it is as well a moral activity. The transformation of the Valley View Cops right from romantic to idealist to realist to cynic is not simply the social psychological phenomenon of burn out. Its transformation is in point of fact a moral phenomenon. These same moral decaying is equally found in the social workers. The article will automatically encourage many people to contribute to the dialogue on the appropriate meaning and also the significance of the communication in organizations.

Organizational communications is however when people work hand in hand to achieve personal or collective goals. Finally, the survival of an organization depends on people as well as groups who are able to maintain amongst themselves effective and long-lasting associations. From the Valley View Cops, everyone is able to understand organizational communication hence he or she is able to understand the organization itself. References Michael, E. (1996).
