Organization’s corporate communications
Ways Wal Mart does not adhere to the public relations principles Although wal-Mart engaged in a public relations campaign to restore a good reputation, there are still some public relations principles that the company did not fully adhere to. For instance, wal-mart turned a deaf ear to the requests for it to give its employees union rights. According to public relations principles, an organization is supposed to listen to the customer (Page, 2008). This means that the decision makers need to keep abreast with the reaction of the public on matters relating to the company’s products, policies and practices.
Therefore it would have been wise for the company to put into consideration the campaign launched against its trade union policy and come clean on its stand regarding this matter to its employees and the public as well (Page, 2008). Public relations principles also demand that any an organization needs to realize that the true character of the company will be reflected by the people working for it. Therefore it is imperative that the welfare and capability of the employees is fully supported.
As a result therefore an organization’s corporate communications needs to be honest with the employees, customers as well as all the stakeholders of the company (Page, 2008). In reference to the aforementioned principle, it is evident that Wal-mart did not fully follow the provisions set out. This is clearly brought out by the claims aired about low wages, insufficient health insurance for its workers denying its workers their fundamental rights and trade union rights (Uni Commerce, 2006).
This goes to show that the corporate communications did not impart enough knowledge to its employees regarding Wal-Mart’s policies thus implying that the company did not consider that its true character would be reflected by the people working for it. Conclusion Recognizing the importance of public relations and its problems has a potential of impacting on Wal-Mart. Thus, in an attempt to avoid negativity in public relations, plans need to be developed so as to educate employees on how to best deal with the media.
What is more, Wal-Mart also needs to work more on its public relations strategy such that it adheres to PR principles. This will be a great move in helping the company to build while also maintaining a good image to its customers as well as the community at large. Therefore, it is imperative for Wal-Mart to keep on strengthening its public relations and ensure that adherence of PR principles is strictly put into consideration so as to maintain a good image. Eventually this will enhance the company’s reputation in the eyes of the entire society and also help the company to achieve its full potential.
