Then she gained numerous positions during the power of the Labour government of Edward Heath. When Heath became prime minister, Thatcher was the secretary of education. Thatcher won the party leadership against Heath and went on to become the prime minister in the 1979 general election. Thatcher’s policy of privatisation of state owned industries, reformed trade unions, reductions in tax and social expenditure lowered the inflation made her the British prime minister three consecutive times. She was called “IRON LADY” by the soviets for foreign affairs policies and her strong mistrust against communism.
