Disney Company is also keen in providing motivation among its employees by providing incentives and trainings to meet job satisfaction. Compensation does not guarantee employees’ loyalty and productivity, Disney knows that very well. According to Robbins, job satisfaction among employees boosts up high level of performance; it lessens absenteeism and lowers resignation rates, thus, good people in the company are kept for the benefit of the company. Job satisfaction is a positive feeling toward a company, which develops one’s commitment to the organization and persuades them to excel in their performance (2005).
Various activities are carefully designed by Disney Company in order to motivate their employees and get their loyalty and dedication. Aside from usual benefits they get from the company, employees are required to attend seminars and training to develop their skills. Rewarding workforce with incentives is a main concern for many businesses to have their performance improves. In an interview with Anne Hamilton-Chehab, VP-Resort Sales and Services, she pointed out that they give incentives to their employees not only for the job well done but also for the job that they are about to do.
She specifically identifies destination incentives such as: resorts, theme parks and cruise ships. She also added to the list the night life, golf, spa options and product flexibility. Rewards are given individually and in group. She also added that if you know your employees, you know what to offer them for incentives. Another way to motivate employees’ satisfaction and participation is to provide program for self-enhancement through seminars and trainings. They provide these trainings to continuously upgrade their customer service.
According to Hartnett, “We immerse them in the history of the company that is unique and very successful, and get them to buy into our culture. ” Arguel on the other hand, explained what training is all about; he said that Disney Institute programs “are unique in the world of business, it is so different and meaningful. ” He further said that they “showcase philosophies and strategies that have made the Walt Disney World Resort a success. ” The training program includes different sessions such as Leadership, Management, Service, and Loyalty – all Disney Style (work cited in News and Events NCCU).
Disney’s Organizational Culture Organizational culture is really important to help it cope with environment in order to generate accomplishment despite many problems and issues. Organizational culture as cited in National Defense University, is “a set of understandings or meanings shared by a group of people that are largely tacit among members and are clearly relevant and distinctive to the particular group which are also passed on to new members (Louis 1980).
However, without good foundation built in values and vision, the company will not have set of understanding and meanings shaped in corporate policies. Disney with this regards, has define clear cut culture founded on collaborative effort wherein ideas abounds and shared to create innovative ideas. Since the start of Disney in California in 1923 until today, according to Disney Company, “our guests, audiences, consumers and shareholders have come to depend on us for quality, creativity, innovation and integrity.
” Thus, the word is commitment to audience which is shared down to the employees by means of upholding legal standard of conduct. Bob Iger of Disney Company explained that these standard business conducts are to guide their behavior and help them live up to the highest expectations of excellence that are Disney. These conducts are imposed with discipline but with honor so that every employee will be encouraged to be proud of being part of the company.
