Productivity of employees Essay
The good performance and productivity of employees are very essential in the success of an organization. The employees of a company are among the most valuable assets that should be given due attention and importance. As such, it is necessary that the welfare of these employees is assured especially when it comes to their working environment. The place that they are supposed to work in as well as the corresponding machineries and gadgets that they use should undergo an ergonomics review. By doing so, the possible risks in the workplace could be prevented.
Moreover, the people who will be responsible for the ergonomics review could also make recommendations that would enhance the working environment of the employees (Bittner and Champney, 1995). In the case of Executive Assistants, most of their duties and responsibilities involve using the computer as they have to do series of paper works and other organizational tasks that are done in basic software applications. As such, five important office tools and accessories should be included in the ergonomic review of the executive assistants’ workplace namely: chairs, keyboards, monitors, mouse/trackball, and printers.
First, the size of the chairs should fit its user and there should be an easy height adjustment

The wrists and upper extremities of the individual using it should be neutral and there should be wrist supports in order to prevent Repetitive Strain Injuries. Third, the monitor should be placed in the area where the head and neck of the operator remain upright. The viewing distance from the monitor should be 18-24 inches depending upon its size and the lens worn by the user. In implementing this, it could prevent computer eye strain and neck pain that could even lead to worse ailments (Nachemson and Jonsson, 2000). Fourth, the mouse or trackball should be situated near the operator’s arm and it should be close to his or her body.
There should be a mouse wrists and the mouse should have rounded edges to fit the hand so that extreme flexion or extension of the fingers and thumb could be prevented. The trackball devices should also minimize arm movement and the buttons should be easy to press. Moreover, for left-handed operators a left-handed mouse should be provided. Applying these recommendations could prevent carpal tunnel cases and shoulder strain. Fifth, printers should be within reach and approximately at the waist level of the operator in order to retrieve printed materials easily.
There should also be a mobile printer stand because this will prevent twisting and extended reaches in a seating position that could lead to posture problems (Marras and Karwowski, 2006).
