Professionalism in services
Professionalism in services provided by American military began undergoing considerable changes when the British threatened Americans during colonization, as they were not ready to give independence to Americans peacefully. Americans realized it was time to get their armies in order to enable them fight the British. Organization within American military has also portrayed levels of professionalism in its operations.
Considerable technological developments were equally witnessed in the operations of American military, where improvements in the types and efficiency of manufactured weapons have been noted since the colonial period to the present. US MILITARY Introduction American military has registered a number of developments which has occurred from the colonial period through civil war to the present. Among the areas where development has been realized is professionalism which includes the manner in which American military conduct its operations.
This has moved from the non professional military operations undertaken at the time when America was being colonized by the British to the super professional military operations that are currently under implementation. Another area in which American military has experienced development is on its operational technology level which has considerably increased from the crude weapons used during the colonial period to the more refined ones that are currently in use.
Generally, various developmental changes have being experienced in American military particularly in the professionalism and technological establishments undertaken from the colonial period, through civil war to the present. Blazek (2003 p. 68) Professionalism in the American Military Establishment At the beginning of the colonial period, American military conducted its military operations in a quite unprofessional manner where most of the duties were carried out by black Americans who were not trained.
Since professional military operations require some level of training on this area, American military did not achieve much at the very beginning. The main intention of forming the military during the colonial period was to defend Americans from threats that came from British colonies which led to the enactment of a law that recognized the organization of militia groups. The first step to professionalism of American military was to enroll black Americans in military classes in order for them to learn English as well as how to counter attack British troops.
However, it occurred that militia service that was provided by blacks did not portray uniformity but was characterized by individualization. This made Americans to ban the participation of blacks in existing militia groups and organizations. While blacks were made to provide labour in various projects, white settlers were left in the military service which was yet another step to professionalism since whites were more enlightened and could respond more readily to technological developments than blacks who were only incorporated on military service during emergency times.
It was during this time that professional military training was given substantial emphasis that saw American military through civil war. In the course of fighting during civil war it was realized that blacks who had been previously trained in military operations could come in handy and selected blacks were incorporated back in militia service. This time round, militia service was not carried out with individualism since further organization had been made where militia were grouped in different categories in accordance to their levels of competency.
Military leadership also contributed to the level of professionalism in which military operations were conducted during civil war. This was because American military leaders acquired military education which was accompanied by practical experience in the field. A military academy situated in West Point and another naval academy located at Annapolis, were some of the United States institutions in which professional military officers were natured. These officers developed a great military service comprehension whose effect was felt in the entire period of civil war and beyond.
Blazek (2003 pp. 69-74) The Impact of Technological Developments on United States Military History from the Colonial Period to the Present Technology has been an integral part of US military operations all the way from the colonial period to the present. During the colonial period, weaponry that was particularly in use by American military was characterized by low levels of technology where Neolithic tools served as weapons. Further developments were experienced when several industries were put up in which better weaponry was manufactured.
This served as an economic contextual factor in which technological developments were in operation. The weaponry manufacturing industries were quite flexible to a level where they would manufacture swords to be used during warfare while plowshares were manufactured during peaceful times. By the twentieth century, military weaponry had become refined to a level that the existing weaponry was comprised of firearms, steamships, nuclear weapons, artillery as well as aircraft designed to necessitate warfare operations.
Before the First World War, technological developments influenced American military to come up with some principles among them being the maintenance of military service at all times. A sizeable military was maintained during peacetime while militias were maintained during wartime. Further developments led to the maintenance of reserves during wartime as it was better skilled in military service than militias. Another principle of war was introduced in order to maintain timely defense where American military ensured that they kept in place great powered economies that would necessitate the construction of complex weaponry during warfare.
However, a more significant operational tenet was introduced which was basically directed to the protection of the overall US economic situation. American military were therefore supposed to work very hard to win and bring world wars to an end which would enable business to resume their normal operations. Technological developments have also enabled the introduction of more sophisticated equipments as well as weaponry that are presently being used by American military among them being rockets, space shuttles and nuclear bombs.
Roces (2008 pp. 27-31) Conclusion It is clear that; American military has undergone great developments over the years which has affected both the manner in which military operations are carried out as well as manufacture of weaponry. Back in the colonial period, American military carried out its operations in a very unprofessional manner where black volunteers were incorporated in war before being trained on the necessary tactic needed in war.
This changed during civil war when institutions that provided military education were introduced. Technological developments also affected American military positively by necessitating the manufacturing of refined weapons that have continued to develop even at the present times as technology continues to develop.
