Promoting change Essay

As is commonly said, the only thing constant in life is change. In order to remain relevant, competitive and successful in their activities, organizations must be willing to change and accept change in whatever form it presents itself. People should be ready to accept newer and more efficient ways of doing things.

This study also highlights the need for change, the people responsible for promoting change and the methodologies, tools and techniques needed for initiating a change process that would eventually form part of the organization’s culture.  The objectives of this study are measurable and achievable. This subject is relevant not only to organizations that are deploying the PeopleSoft application but also any organization that intends to deploy new software solutions or embark on a new project in any part of the world.

The methodology for conducting the research will involve the study of written publications and journals on the concept of change management in general, and materials that focus on ERP implementation. The research will specifically focus on change management with respect to ERP applications. An organization that has deployed PeopleSoft Application successfully will be used as a case study for the research. Analogies will be drawn between the model organization

and the UNDP.

The model organization will also be used to gain further insight into the do’s and don’ts of PeopleSoft implementation. Through the use of surveys, questionnaires, interviews and observation, it will be possible to gain the relevant information needed from the organization and produce recommendations based on previous mistakes made. Similar projects and previous research conducted on the subject will also be consulted to gain further insight into the PeopleSoft Application.

The study assumes that the organization in question has a minimum of 30 employees that can be grouped into teams, with each team having a change management leader that can pass on the vision of the PeopleSoft implementation to his team members. The study also assumes that the organization has the relevant resources and technical skills for implementing the PeopleSoft application. Another basic assumption is that the organization comprises staff members that are not particularly receptive to change and are used to doing things in a particular way.

The study looks primarily at the process of change, the necessity of change and the implications of change management for both the organization and its staff. It examines how change can be effectively achieved and the implications of managing it. The study does not examine the financial and technical implications of the PeopleSoft implementation but looks basically at the managerial and change aspects of its implementation. It highlights numerous ways of ensuring business continuity while focusing on the implementation of the new software.  The study is relevant to organizations in both developing and developed countries. Any organization that has a pre-set culture and a particular way of conducting business will definitely benefit from the principles of change management.
