The development of information technology paved the way for the existence of easier form of communication and transaction like the Internet. This kind of phenomenon has influenced various sectors and the realm of business is no exemption (Rogerson, 1998). The usual mode of operations in business has evolved.
In relation to this, ethical issues have also emerged. The business industry has to face new challenges that involve easier access to information and communication. As a result, proper business ethics also changes in order to address these contemporary ethical issues. The term “ethics” is from the Greek word ethos, which means “customs” or “traditions. ” Ethics stands for the society’s customary beliefs, social norms, and common values (Frederick, 2002). As a result, the Greeks gave much emphasis towards the behavior of people and its corresponding effect on their character.

De George entitled The Ethics of Information Technology and Business, the development of information technology has indeed revolutionized the proper business ethics that most organizations practice. Easier access to information has given added importance to the traditional value of honesty. This is due to the fact that information can be useful if it is true and accurate.
Lying is regarded as a serious infraction to the basic norm of information technology that has to be severely reprimanded. However, misinterpretations and fabrication of false information becomes easier due to the anonymity of the source of information, which is widely observable in the World Wide Web. Truthfulness is needed more than ever especially in the business industry. If managers cannot obtain reliable reports from their subordinates then, they will have a hard time making sound decisions (De George, 2003).
