The opponents to this proposition, however, points out that companies can successfully resort to crisis management if they are guided by able leadership that can envision the possible events of the future and accordingly chart out more than one possible strategic lines of actions like plan A, B, or C to meet anyone that eventually takes place. However, the first school still maintains that asking leaders to be clairvoyant would be too much and at best leaders can apply them with all their knowledge, wisdom and managerial ability when the change occurs.
Opposing this, the second school says that the leaders will not get any time to analyze the situation while suddenly discovering them within it and consequently they will not be able to effectively handle the situation. This debate would perhaps go on, but the plethora of pink slips around the globe due to this change highlights the need of the hour – that is, quality leaders to bring back the smiles of the millions who have been suffering from this change.
Thus this paper delves deep into the making of a quality leader, with special emphasis on the crisis leadership qualities that can effectively handle this change, though overall searching for the answers of three questions as mentioned below: How do certain qualities define a crisis leader? Do companies with a plan in place fair better than others? Does the success of crisis management depend on preparation or leadership?
To search for the answers of the above, this paper goes on to explore the leadership elements that are essential to manage crisis situations, followed by the leadership models to check which one meets most of the demand lists of crisis management. Thereafter this study seeks the answers of the next two questions through analyzing leadership and organization behavior, before reaching its conclusion.
