You are a supervisor in a small manufacturing plant

In organizing the negotiation to the workers on the subject of their union contract, it is one of the responsibilities for me as a supervisor to evaluate and realize the terms and conditions that would be included in the next union contract that would be offered to my employees. However, allow me to clarify some terms like what does the term ‘union’ imply? In accordance with a Business Dictionary, the word ‘union’ is a federation of workers who agreed to reach an arrangement to negotiate cooperatively for the welfare of the members of the group.

The alliance struggles to get better the rights of the employees such as the earnings, benefits and the situation within their working environment. Furthermore, they can proceed autonomously or they may get some assistance from some recognized labor organization. Railway Labor Act and Wagner Act are the decree where union organizations are officially acclaimed and established together with the associated proposed laws. (“Union”) According to the United States Department of Labor Statistics, approximately sixteen percent of the labor force of the country was recognized to be employees working under the effectiveness of a union contract.

There are many labour unions that aims primarily protect and look after the rights, security and the wellbeing of the associates of the working organization. These labor unions concentrate on the matters such as the requirements and interests of the employees in order to ensure that these workers were not being abused, maltreated or cheated. Generally, labour unions approve the regulations and set of laws regarding safety and health related matters for the personal benefits of the workers.

(Byrd) Building the commitment and loyalty among the subordinates is necessary in order to for the subordinates to strive and perform in their very best to share and attain with the company’s common goals which comprise of the company’s mission, vision and objectives. Providing them safety and some beneficial matters may give them motivations and in effect may result in further productivity and efficiency in their working performance. Herewith, the preparation for the negotiating procedure of the union contract must take in seriously.

Nonetheless, before offering another contract to the manufacturing employees, their performance may first have some evaluation by the officials in charge so as to determine if they are commendable for another working opportunity in the organization. While preparing for the union contract negotiation, I, being the supervisor of a manufacturing plant, should bear in mind the few reminders that could be advantageous both to the work force and to the company.

I have to take into consideration the objectives of union organization in which are being stated above. To get ready in the negotiation, two teams were sent from the both parties – the company and the side of the union organization. In the team of the company, it is commonly encompassed of legal representative, the lower management and the upper management executives while the union team is normally made up of a bargaining unit of employees, legal representatives and league moderator or International Representatives.

The teams sent by the union party would present the list of things which were nominated by the majority or all of the employee members and that they would like to be included in the contract. These two teams would discussed about the content of the union contract and see if there is any need for further explanation and clarification from both participants. It is necessary to inspect the union contract because it would be the full-blown foundation of the conditions granted for the employees for the next three to five years of the human resources’ working experience.
